As a leader, your job is to be excellent at what you do, to be the best chiropractor in your community. Your job is to have high standards in serving people. You not only exemplify excellence in your own behavior, but you also translate it to others so that they, too, become committed to your vision.

Leadership Excellence
The key to leadership is the commitment to doing work of the highest quality in the service of other people, both inside and outside of your office. Leadership today requires a focus on the highest priorities in your office, keeping your key people motivated and filled with your vision of community wide wellness, and making sure your vision is understood through the values of those who you serve in your office.

Integrity
The single most respected quality of motivational leaders is integrity. Integrity is complete, unflinching honesty with regard to everything that you say and do. Integrity underlies all the other qualities. Integrity means that when someone asks you at the end of the day, “Did you do your very best?” you can look him in the eye and say, “Yes!” Integrity means that you, as a leader, admit your shortcomings and commit to improving everyday. It means that you work to develop your strengths and compensate for your weaknesses.

Courage
Courage, combined with Integrity, is the foundation of character. One form of courage is the ability to stick to your principles, to stand for what you believe in, and to refuse to budge unless you feel right about the alternative. Courage is also the ability to step out in faith, to launch into the unknown and then face the inevitable doubt and uncertainty that accompany every new venture or opportunity.

Responsibility
Responsibility is perhaps the hardest of all leadership qualities to develop. The acceptance of responsibility means that, as President Harry Truman said, “The buck stops here.” If you run into an obstacle or have a setback, and you make excuses rather than accept responsibility, it can mean the difference between success and failure.

To be a leader in your community, begin to apply the principles above. Meditate on them throughout the day and use them as a compass in your thoughts and decisions.

Love and Lead,

Dr. Wilson

This is by Brian Tracy, I thought it was great, wanted to share.

There are seven methods that you can use to help develop the habits of time management. The more you think about and practice these methods, the more rapidly you will program yourself to be efficient and highly productive.

First
Remember that your self-image determines your performance. You always perform on the outside in a matter consistent with the picture you have of yourself on the inside. Practice visualizing and imagining yourself as you want to be, not as you may have been in the past. You can actually change your self-image permanently by repeatedly visualizing yourself as someone who is highly efficient and effective.

Second
Remember that it takes about twenty-one days of practice and repetition to form a new habit pattern. It has taken you your entire lifetime to become the person you are today, with the time management habits you have at this moment. It takes time and commitment to change, and for your subconscious mind to accept the new habits.

Third
Promise yourself that you are going to become excellent at time management. Promise yourself that you are going to be punctual, and that you are going to concentrate on your most important tasks. Then, promise others that you are going to be more effective and efficient in the future.

Fourth
In developing the habits of time management, start in just one area where poor time management is holding you back. Don’t try to change everything at once. Change just one habit or activity where you know that improvement could be very helpful to you.

Fifth
Launch your new time management habit strongly. Never allow an exception once you have decided that you are going to become excellent in a particular behavior. Never let yourself off the hook.

Sixth
Use the “trial and success” method rather than the “trial and error” method. The trial and success method requires that you learn how to succeed by failing, and then by learning from your mistakes. Analyze your reasons for poor time management. Ask yourself, “What are the obstacles to my operating more efficiently in this area?” Take some time to reflect on recent behaviors.

Seventh
You must absolutely believe that you can and will become excellent at time management. The Law of Belief says that “Your beliefs become your realities.” The more intensely you believe that you can and will become excellent at time management, the more rapidly this belief becomes your reality. If you hold to your belief long enough and hard enough, it will eventually materialize as new behaviors with regard to time.

Action Exercise
Select one area where better time management skills can help you to be more efficient and get more done. Resolve to go to work on yourself in that area immediately.

I get the question all of the time from students wondering if it is a good thing or should they just start on their own. I personally like the idea of being an associate first and then choose the direction that you want to go. Associatship is a great way to discover what you “the DC” are good at and what you are not good at! You also get to discover what technique you really love doing. You might even discover equipment that you want or some that you thought you needed and now realize that you don’t. From posters, systems, and staffing, an associateship can be very beneficial to the new graduate. However, I do think there should be a few guidelines in which you go through before joining any practice and becoming an associate.

1. Make sure your heart is in it!

If you go into the relationship with a half hearted approach, then you will get a half hearted response from the team you join and the patients you serve. There is a major difference in stopping by for a couple months to learn and dialing into a relationship called an associateship. You have to be at a place where you can pour your heart into it to really get the most out of your experience.

2. Don’t think so much of your value, prove it!

So many students graduate with the mindset that they are now worth a ton, and they demand a high salary to come and bless this new place of employment. The truth is that you are valuable and will become more valuable, but the best way is to prove it. Just like a rookie has to come to a team and prove themselves, you will need to do the same. A base pay should be just that, base pay. This should meet the majority of your base bills and then you have a chance to earn more through getting busier in the practice. Until your production meets your base pay, you are an expense to that company. Yet, once you get over your base in production, you become an asset. A producing asset at that, and that is when you the associate and the practice should be earning a profit.

3. Know your role, and your future opportunities before you start, get it in writing!

Part of a successful relationship is knowing your roles and what is possible for future growth. Meaning get all the vision of the relationship down on paper. Write out what you want to see in a year, two years, and so on. Map out milestones that will indicate you are achieving these goals and they can guide future raises or deductions based on future productivity.

4. Have an exit plan that is healthy for both involved!

Know your exits! Don’t wait until the fire alarm goes off before you try to find the exits. It will be too messy. Map out a plan of exits so that you and the doctor know what is expected of each person in the relationship and how that professional relationship will be maintain or ended. This is never fun to talk about, but you can avoid a ton of possible legal fees and emotional challenge if you will ask the hard questions now! Then make sure it is in writing, both sign it and keep a copy.

My best wishes to those who want to associate with like minded doctors. I have helped hundreds to just this, if you need help, please contact us and we will do what we can to help you in forming the best agreement possible.

Dr. Wilson

It’s not that we consciously sabotage ourselves with these memes, but our habituated mind (not subconscious because we can access it if we choose) has accepted them as truths by which we have lived for as long as each of us has been on the planet. There are subtle but substantial payoffs to hanging onto our personal memes instead of dropping them for more liberating truths. They provide a way of avoiding what might be difficult or challenging work. They offer the safety of the status quo and an easy way out. They can also be used to manipulate family and others around us to do the job for us, or allow us to continue blaming others for our problems. Maybe they keep us always being right: “See, I told you it couldn’t be done, and I was right!” Or they offer protection we fear we need to keep us from experiencing the present moment, so we can continue living in some fuzzy daydream about what coulda/shoulda/woulda been if the world had only treated us fairly.

Pain, anxiety, fear, anger, and the like make themselves known in your body as rashes, eczema, heart palpitations, arthritis, backaches, headaches, stomachaches, diarrhea, eyestrain, cramps, and many more ailments. These can become your way of life and define your reality.

If you begin to acknowledge that possibly—just possibly—these don’t have to be your reality forever, then you can access the profound and universal ability to quickly change your reality, no matter how long you have been in the old one. From now on each time you are confronted with one of your excuses, begin the habit of immediately challenging it with the following questions:

1. “Is it true?” Is this excuse that your mind has thrown up as a blockade to some dream or desire absolutely 100% certainly true? If it’s not (and it won’t be), then there is an opposite and equally possible truth, so why not choose the positive one to work from?

2. “Where did this excuse come from?” The answer to this one is always your mind. Someone else gave it to you or you made it up on your own, but it exists nowhere else but in your mind.

3. “What is the payoff?” What challenge will I avoid or what anxiety will I escape by clinging to this excuse? I call this the Rumpelstiltskin question: when you face it directly and answer it honestly within yourself, the excuse will disappear in a puff of smoke.

4. “What would my life look like if I couldn’t use these excuses?” The answer to this one is fun—here you build your dreams, without roadblocks or restrictions or excuses.

5. “Can I create a rational reason to change?” Change is difficult, so there must be a compelling reason to draw you out of your protective meme shell. The three criteria for a rational reason are: (1) it must make sense; (2) it must be do-able; (3) it must allow you to feel good; and (4) it must be aligned with the calling of your soul.

How to set standards for excellence and back them with total integrity.

A Commitment to Excellence
Leaders have specific responsibilities and must fulfill certain requirements. One requirement of leadership is the ability to choose what area of excellence, and hire people who are excellent where the leader is weak. Just as a good general chooses the terrain on which to do battle, an excellent leader chooses the area in which he and others are going to do an outstanding job. The commitment to excellence is one of the most powerful of all motivators. All leaders who change people and organizations are enthusiastic about achieving excellence in a particular area. Yours might be in building teams, communicating, or adjusting patients. Know what you are great at and know what you are not is the key to excellence.

Be the Best!
The most motivational vision you can have for yourself and others is to “Be the best!” Many people don’t yet realize that excellent performance in serving other people is an absolute, basic essential for survival in the economy of the future. Many individuals still adhere to the idea that as long as they are no worse than anyone else, they can remain in business. That is just plain silly! It is prehistoric thinking. We are now in the age of excellence. Clients assume that they will get excellent quality, and if they don’t, they will go to your competitors so fast, people’s heads will spin. I know there is “no competition” in chiropractic, but what I am saying is this client will find someone who will deliver excellent service and adjustments each and every time.

Have A Vision of High Standards
As a leader, your job is to be excellent at what you do, to be the best in chiropractic. Your job is to have a vision of high standards in serving people. You not only exemplify excellence in your own behavior, but you also translate it to others so that they, too, become committed to this vision.

This is the key to servant leadership. It is the commitment to doing work of the highest quality in the service of other people, both inside and outside the office. Leadership today requires an equal focus on the people who must do the job, on the one hand, and the people who are expected to benefit from the job, on the other.

The Most Respected Quality
The second quality, which is perhaps the single most respected quality of leaders, is integrity. Integrity is complete, unflinching honesty with regard to everything that you say and do. Integrity underlies all the other qualities. Your measure of integrity is determined by how honest you are in the critical areas of your life.

Integrity means this: When someone asks you at the end of the day, “Did you do your very best?” you can look him in the eye and say, “Yes!” Integrity means this: When someone asks you if you could have done it better, you can honestly say, “No, I did everything I possibly could.” Integrity means this: When someone examines your life, you are living what you are telling them to live!

Integrity means that you, as a leader, admit your shortcomings. It means that you work to develop your strengths and hire strong people for your weaknesses. Integrity means that you tell the truth, and that you live the truth in everything that you do and in all your relationships. Integrity means that you deal straightforwardly with people and situations and that you do not compromise what you believe to be true. Integrity means that the client gets a treatment plan that THEY need, not what the insurance company will pay for.

Action Exercises
Now, here are two things you can do immediately to put these ideas into action.

First, identify the area of chiropractic where excellent performance can contribute the very most to productivity and profits. Focus all your efforts in this area. Most of the time this is adjusting and communicating.

Second, do your very best in what you do, and train the staff to do their best. Imagine that everyone is watching (because they are) even when no one is watching. Imagine that everyone in your office was going to do their work exactly the way you do yours.

Never compromise your standards, go save some lives today!

Love and livin,

Dig deep on what you believe today about how you see life should be lived, and live it full out. Today I will live to be inspired so that I can inspire others. Don’t just livestrong, but live inspired! Inspiration begets inspiration.

Nine years ago Dr. Christopher Lyden wrote an article claiming that every incident of a school shooting or act of extreme violence involved the perpetrator being on “psychotropic drugs” (mood altering medications, like anti-depressants). The local media in Philadelphia was not interested in printing it because it was too ‘controversial and inflammatory.’ He later created a PowerPoint presentation for other doctors around the country to use in their local communities to teach people about the problems of treating ADD/ADHD with Ritalin and psychotropic drugs. Such advice went largely unheeded. Since then, there have been thousands of additional incidents of violence associated with the use of psychotropic drugs in general, and with anti-depressants specifically. The relationship between these very common drugs and violence (homicide and suicide) appears to be more than coincidental. It is so consistent that some court cases have established it to be causal (one directly causing the other).

How does this affect you? People you know are on these drugs. One out of eight Americans has been on or is currently taking an anti-depressant! You or a family member may be one of them. Your children and/or friends will likely be encouraged to take them at some point.

I urge you to click on the link below and see the volume of articles and cases confirming the vast number of incidents of violence associated with antidepressants. The list goes on, not by a few dozen, not even by hundreds of cases, but by the thousands and thousands. Every case of school shootings and violence committed by a young person seems to have been related to SSRI use. Not some–all of them–were taking some type of prescribed psychotropic drugs. These drugs are known to induce “violent behavior, psychosis, hallucinations, suicide, homicidal thoughts and ideation, delusions, altered affect (emotional state)”… and on and on. These, and many other similar ’side effects’ are actually listed in the fine print of the drug inserts. Any wonder why people on these drugs commit acts they normally would not?

Click Here to see the research

Some have been convinced to take these drugs, others are parents of children who will be encouraged to put their children on one of them at some point in their young lives. You can stop another atrocity, if you inform them of the dangers. Their physicians are not doing so. Patients must legally give “informed consent” to accept any therapeutic procedure. I ask you–how can one give informed consent if they are not ‘informed’ of the possible dangers?

Some of the most important questions that you ever ask yourself on your journey through life are questions such as, “Why am I here?” “What do I really, really want in life?” “Where am I going?” “If I achieve all my goals, what would it look like?”

The most successful people are invariably those people who spend the most time thinking about who they are and where they are going, and then constantly evaluating and re-evaluating their progress in light of who they are and what they really want.

The starting point of great success is for you to realize that you are truly extraordinary! There has never been anyone in the entire universe just like you. You have remarkable abilities, skills, aptitudes, insights and ideas that make you different, and in some way, superior to all other people who have ever lived. You have the capacity within you, right now, to accomplish more than you have ever dreamed of in the past. You are engineered and designed as “success organism,” endlessly attracted to doing more and more of the things that will bring you more and more of the success and happiness that you desire.

Albert Schweitzer said “The greatest tragedy of life is what dies inside a man while he still lives”. As for many chiropractors, we have never sat down and drilled down deep to find out what we really want out of this great profession. Furthermore, what and where we can really give of ourselves to this profession. Then and only then, will we be in the flow of our “calling” in practice!

Each of us come to the table with unique gifts, talents, desires, risk tolerance levels, and so on. Each of these change and grow over time, but what we are talking about is where are you right now, and then we can discover where you want to go. Coming out of school I find really three categories that students find themselves entertained by.

1. Associateship

2. Purchasing a practice

3. Build it from scratch

I will be going over each of these in the future postings, so you can discover what is best for you, and to ultimately lead you down the right path for you. There are a ton of variables and I will do my best to bring clarity to the table with these basic options. Your future is worth the time and effort to explore these options in detail.

Remember, you were put on this earth to do something wonderful with your life. Your job is to find out what that wonderful thing is and then to throw your whole heart into doing it extremely well. Your life may have a single purpose, like that of Mother Theresa of Calcutta, or your life may have multiple, sequential purposes, one after the other as you evolve and grow and develop into a higher and better person.

Stay tuned in..

If only we could really guarantee that buying a product would help our focus, or better yet our focus on the right things. It is said that we get what we focus on! What really does that mean? Focus deals with what our attention is on. Many of us keep our attention on our problems, therefore we have our focus on our problems. So by all technical means our focus directs our future, and if our focus in on our problems. Then our future is full of… yikes.. that is right problems. Wait, that is not what I signed up for, but it is exactly what I got, is what you might be thinking!!

So the key is that your focus must get past your problems and go immediately to your solutions, so that your focus can be on the solution. Therefore, our live can be full of solutions. The reality, our life will always have problems and challenges, therefore you will always have to choose what you will focus on.. Choose today to focus on your solutions. Ask better questions about the challenge and create a solution that you don’t see right in front of you. Choose solutions from this point forward. It is never easy, but always worth it.

Enjoy solutions!
